Spring Fever

Welcome back!

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to crawl into my bed.  My flower and vegetable beds!

April is a great month to get your gardens prepared.  It’s time to remove any leftover leaves.  You want to rake these out before your plants start growing to avoid any damage to the new growth.  Now is the time to cut back any grasses you didn’t cut back in the fall.  An easier way of doing this is to tie the grass in a bundle and then cut down low.  If you have hedge clippers this will make it easier. April is a good time to divide any overgrown perennials before they get big.  If you haven’t done so you should have your soil PH tested.  URI will do this for you.  When you get these results you can amend your gardens with what they recommend.  We have all your needs, compost (Lobster compost is great,) manure, peat moss and mulch.

Vegetable gardens should have the soil turned over in April for your annual vegetables.  It’s a good time to add compost.  April is usually a good time to plant peas, lettuce and Cole crops of broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale. We will have all these in stock for you.

So get outside and get dirty!
